Additional information

The acute aquatic toxicity of 2,4-pentanedione to fish has been investigated in several species of fresh water fish. In flow -through studies with analytical monitoring the material showed a minimum 96 h LC50 of 60.1 mg/l in the bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) (C.I. 50.3 – 71.8 mg/l) and a maximum 96 h LC50 of 204 mg/l in the mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis) (Thurston et al. 1985, Brooke et al. 1984).[modified from OECD SIDS Dossier]

The most valid and best described test were performed on Pimephales promelas by Brooke and Geiger et al in 1984 and 1985 showing LD50s of 104 and 175 mg/l. Test method and test This is in good compliance with the test performed by Phipps et al. (155 mg/l).

Therefore the lowest LD50 of these tests is used as a key value.
