Description of key information

Additional information

Based on the information obtained by QC lab Proviron Fine Chemicals N.V (in Material Safety Data Sheet) it can be concluded that Bis(2 -butoxyethyl)adipate is a clear liquid with a very faint odour, has a density at 25°C of 0.991 kg/L, a flash point of 133°C and a viscosity of 12.8 mPa.s (20°C). The melting point was estimated (using QSAR modelling tool EPI suite v. 4.10) to be 18.58 °C at atmospheric pressure. The boiling point was determined (using OECD 103) to be 322 °C at 760 mmHg. This compound is a liquid, so the test for particle size distribution can be waived (a non solid or granular form according to column 2 of Annex VII section 7.14). The vapour pressure of bis(2 -butoxyethyl)adipate is 0.00559 Pa at a temperature of 25 °C and the log Kow value is 3.78 (using QSAR modelling tool EPI suite, v 4.10). The solubility of in Milli Q water was determined to be 101 mg/L at (20 +/-0.5)°C. The test for surface tension can be waived because the compound does not contain any surface active groups (REACH Annex VII, section 7.6). Based on the structure and experience with bis(2 -butyoxyethyl)adipate, pyrophoric properties or flammability on contact with water is not expected, so the flammability can be waived . The substance only contains chemical groups including oxygen and the oxygen balance is -217, so the test for explosiveness and oxidasing properties can be waived (Annex VII, section. 7.11 & 7.13). The auto-ignition temperature of this compound is 311°C. Bis(2 -butoxyethyl) adipate is an organic compound which is stable in most organic solvents and thus the stability is not considered to be critical, so this study can be waived. The substance does not contain functional groups which can dissociate, the dissociation constant is irrelevant and the study can be waived.
