Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Gancet et al (2005) provided a 72hr EC10 and EC50, based on growth of 0.1122 and 0.1848 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.185 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.112 mg/L

Additional information

Reliable toxicity studies with algae are available for reaction mass of Amines, coco alkyl and ß-Alanine, N-(2-carboxyethyl)-, N-coco alkyl derivs. and ß-Alanine, N-coco alkyl derivs. and are included in this dossier.

Gancet et al (2005) conducted a reliable (Klimisch 2) GLP compliant study following OECD 201 methods with the test substance in solvent. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitatawere exposed to measured concentrations of 0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.25, 0.39, 0.64, 0.99 mg/L of the test substance in for 72hrs under static conditions. The 72 hr NOEC and EC50 values based on growth rate were 0.28 and 0.17 mg/L, respectively. Since the test substance was in 34% solvent, the actual effect concentration (72hr LC50 and NOEC), based on active ingredient was calculated to be 0.1848 and 0.1122 mg/L, respectively, based on growth.

Hushagen (1997) conducted a (Klimish 3) GLP compliant study following ISO 10253 (Water quality - Marine Algal Growth Inhibition Test withSkeletonema costatumandPhaeodactylum tricornutum) methods. The marine algae,Skeletonema costatum, was exposed to nominal concentrations of 0, 0.01, 0.032, 0.056, 0.1 mg/L of the test substance for 72 hrs. The 72hr NOEC and EC50, based on growth was 0.032 and 0.04 mg/L, respectively. Although this study is considered not reliable based on purity of test substance unknown and no measured test concentrations, it is provided as supporting information for the toxicity to algae endpoint.

A reliable toxicity study with algae is available for the test substance and is included in this dossier. The most sensitive reliable study result was provided by Gancet et al (2005) where the 72hr NOEC and EC50, based on growth was 0.1122 and 0.1848 mg/L, respectively. Consequently these values will be taken as the toxicity in algae endpoint for the test substance.
