Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: OECD Guideline 105
Principles of method if other than guideline:
An excess of Guanidinumthiocyanate was added to 50 g solvent and the suspension was stirred for 72 h at 20 °C.
The resulting saturated solution still contained multiple grams of undissolved Guanidinumthiocyanate. The content of guanidinium and thiocyanate in the saturated solution was determined by ion chromatography (ICS 5000, Thermo
Fisher Scientific). The procedure is derived from OECD guideline 105 and was modified (five times excess and usage of three different flasks was omitted) to avoid excessive consumption of the compound due to high solubility.
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Medium:
n-octanol
Solubility:
ca. 59 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
Conclusions:
The solubility of Guanidine thiocyanate in n-octanol was measured to be 59.0 g/L at 20 °C.

Description of key information

The Soubility of Guanidinium thiocyanate in n-Octanol was determined at 20 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
