2,2 -bis(methylthio)propane (BMTP) has been found to be harmful to fish (LC50_96h of 19 mg/L) and to algae (ErC50_72h of 41 mg/L), and toxic to daphnia (EC50_48h of 2.9 mg/L). Concerning the toxicity to microorganisms, no toxic effect was observed at 100 mg/L (EC50_3h and NOEC) and thus BMTP can be considered as slightly harmful to microorganisms. Chronic data are available for algae with an ErC10 of 20 mg/L and for daphnia with an EC10_21d of 0.17 mg/L.
