Description of key information

Based on the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008:

- acute aquatic hazard: not classified

- long-term aquatic hazard: Aquatic Chronic 3, H412.

Additional information

Adequate chronic toxicity data are not available for Acid Blue 193, therefore the aquatic toxicity assessment and classification are based mainly on the short-term toxicity data available on the substance.

Acid Blue 193 is water soluble, not readily biodegradable and, on the basis of the log Pow, it is not expected to be bioaccumulable (log Pow lower than 4).

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, acute aquatic toxicity is normally determined using a fish 96-hour LC50 , a crustacean species 48-hour EC50 and/or an algal species 72- or 96-hour EC50; the mentioned species cover a range of trophic levels and taxa and are considered as surrogate for all aquatic organisms.

In the case of Acid Blue 193 reliable data is currently available for fish (Leuciscus idus), on invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and aquatic plants (Lemna minor).

No L(E)C50 value was recorded at concentration equal/lower than 1 mg/l, thus classification criteria for acute (short-term) aquatic hazard (category 1) of the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 are not met.

The available studies on all tested organisms fixed the short-term effect level between 10 and 100 mg/l, thus the substance meets the criteria to be classified for long-term aquatic hazard, category 3 (i.e. Aquatic Chronic 3, H412) of the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
