Conclusion on classification

Only acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates data are available for 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol, giving a 48 hour EC50 of 0.090 mg/L. As the value lies below 1 mg/L, 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol meets the criteria for classification as Aquatic Acute Category 1 (H400). On the basis of the data and 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol not being readily biodegradable, the substance also meets the criteria for classification as Aquatic Chronic Category 1 (H410) under CLP. Under DSD, 1-1,dimethylheptanethiol meets the criteria for classification as R50/R53, with the risk phrases “very toxic to aquatic organisms” and “may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment”.
