Additional information

1,1-dimethylheptanethiol is considered to be not readily biodegradable, as it showed no degradation after 28 days at an initial concentration of 50 mg/L and the re-inoculation test also showed no degradation after 28 days at an initial concentration of 20 mg/L in a study modified to use soil and activated sludge from a wastewater treatment facility in a composite microbial inoculum.

No data are available on the adsorption/desorption of 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol in the environment. The substance is not expected to hydrolyse based on a lack of hydrolysable functional groups and based on results read across from tert-dodecanethiol, a structural analogue, 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol is considered not to bioaccumulate.
