Description of key information

A long-term fish toxicity study (32-day early life stage (ELS) toxicity test) with fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) was developed and evaluated by the U.S. EPA Environmental Research Laboratory-Duluth with 1,2-dichloropropane one of the test substances used in the evaluation .

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Additional information

The fish early-life stage study by Benoit et al. (1982) with 1,2 -dichloropropane was selected as the key study since it was conducted and used by the U.S. EPA in their evaluation of this test method which they developed. The resulting freshwater fish (fathead minnow) chronic NOEC was 6 mg 1,2-dichloropropane/L, based on the most sensitive endpoint of larvae weight at test termination (day 32 of test and day 28 of larvae exposure).
