Description of key information

Measured data were available for the three trophic levels required for REACH for short term toxicity. These data indicate that the EC50 ranges from 6 mg/L for Daphnia, 12.52 mg/L for fish and 25 mg/L for algae. The aquatic invertebrates study by Bobra et al (1983) reports the most conservative acute result.

The information gathered indicates that 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene is of low toxicity to environmental receptors. None of the studies evaluated exceed the acute EC50 toxicity (T) screening criteria of <0.1 mg/L. Therefore, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene is not considered to be T on the basis of the screening criterion.
