The study of the vapour pressure determination using effusion method is performed in accordance with an elaborated Standard Operating Procedure SPO/BC/13/b (3rd ed.). This procedure complies with the method EC A4.

The described method is used for liquid and solid substances. Recommended by guideline range for this effusion method using Knudsen cell is 10 to 10-10  1 Pa, however apparatus employed in the test with Knudsen cell possessing 0.336 mm or 0.1mm orifice diameters allows to determine vapour pressure in the range of 10-15 Pa – 500 Pa.

The method is based on the estimation of the mass of test substance flowing out per unit of time of a Knudsen cell in the form of vapour, through a micro-orifice under ultra-vacuum conditions.

The vapour pressure was calculated by applying the Hertz-Knudsen relation with Clausing correction factor f that depends on parameters of the apparatus.
