The median particle size D50 (D (v, 0.5): 50 % of particle volume or particle mass with lower particle diameter) deduced from these distributions were:

1st test series: D50 = 58.42 µm

2nd test series: D50 = 56.02 µm

The average of the median particle size D50 was: D50 = 57.2 µm

The particle size D10 (D (v,0.1): 10 % of particle volume or particle mass with lower particle diameter) deduced from these distributions were:

1st test series: D10 = 8.21 µm

2nd test series: D10 = 7.89 µm

The average of the particle size D10 was: D10 = 8.1 µm

The particle size D90 (D (v, 0.9): 90 % of particle volume or particle mass with lower particle diameter) deduced from these distributions were:

1st test series: D90 = 194.03 µm

2nd test series: D90 = 187.01 µm

The average of the particle size D90 was: D90 = 190.5 µm

The paticle size distribution showed a polymodal distribution with two maxima. The first maximum was observed at approx. 2 µm and the second maximum was observed at approx. 100 µm.

Conclusions:
The median particle sizes D10, D50 and D90 were determined to be 8.1 µm, 57.2 µm and 190.5 µm, respectively.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD TG 110 to determine the particle size distribution of the test item. The test item consisted o transparent, crystalline particles which appear partially needle-shaped. The particles were introduced to the analyser beam by the dry powder feeder by direct spraying through the measurement area. The powder was loosened by an integrated vibrator. The particles were dispersed and fed to the optical system by pressurized dry air (1.5 barg). After passing the analyser beam the sample was collected in a vacuum cleaner. After adjusting the laser, measuring the background and adjusting the correct particle concentration the measurement was started.
