Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
24 Jun - 22 Aug 2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: 605803
- Physical state: White waxy solid
- Analytical purity: 98.4%
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 31 December 2016

STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: at room temperature
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
other: No propagation of combustion along the 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item melted, burned with a green flame, and turned into a colourless white residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished immediately and no propagation of combustion was observed.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
MTDID 15670 is not flammable as determined by EU Method A.10.
Executive summary:

The flammability of MTDID 15670 was evaluated according to EU Method A.10. Results of the preliminary test indicated that the main study did not have to be performed. This test was performed following EU guidance and was GLP compliant; therefore it is considered reliable without restriction.

Description of key information

MTDID 15670 is considered non-flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

MTDID 15670 does not contain any metals, transition metals, boron, or silicon, and the structure does not include moieties that would result in a reaction with water, air, or damp air leading to emanation of flammable gases. The structure does not contain any chemically unstable or highly reactive groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition. In addition, flammability testing (EU Method A.10) shows that MTDID 15670 is not flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the chemical structure and results of the flammability study, data is conclusive but not sufficient for classification of the substance as flammable.
