Description of key information

Appearance / physical state / colour:

The physical appearance of test chemical is observed to be an organic, white crystalline/ flakes/ plates solid substance.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

Based on available data from handbook and authoritative databases, the melting point of test chemical is determined to be 89 °C.

Boiling point:

Based on the prediction done using the EPI Suite MPVPBP V1.43, the boiling point of test chemical was estimated to be 302 ˚C.

Density:

The density of test chemical was estimated to be 1.39 ± 0.06 g/cm3.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 147 micron to 52 micron.

Vapour pressure:

The vapour pressure of test chemical was estimated to be 1.235E-19 Pa (9.26E-22 mm Hg) at 25 °C.

Partition coefficient:

Based on the available data from secondary source, the partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the test chemical was estimated to be -6.54. On the basis of this value, test chemical can be considered to be hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility of Nicotine dihydrogen ditartrate is estimated to be 1000000 mg/L at 25 °C.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The test chemical is used as a laboratory chemical, Synthesis of substances, etc. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.

Flash point:

The flashpoint of the test substance was determined to be 143.2°C at 967.2 hPa

Autoflammability:

The auto flammability or Auto-ignition of test chemical is determined to be 244°C.

Flammability:

The test substance does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that test chemical is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus was considered as non-flammable.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidising properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

Additional information

Appearance / physical state / colour:

Based on available data from authoritative databases and secondary sources, the physical appearance of test chemical is observed to be an organic, white crystalline/ flakes/ plates solid substance.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

Based on available data from handbook and authoritative databases, the melting point of test chemical is determined to be 89 °C.

Other supporting data from authoritative database and secondary sources, also supported the selected key study and exhibited the melting point of test chemical as 90 °C which is very closer to the selected key value.

Boiling point:

Based on the prediction done using the EPI Suite MPVPBP V1.43, the boiling point of test chemical was estimated to be 302 ˚C.

Density:

Based on prediction done using ACD/I-Lab 2.0, the density of test chemical was estimated to be 1.39 ± 0.06 g/cm3.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

The particle size distribution of test chemical was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 147 micron to 52 micron.

Vapour pressure:

Based on available data from authoritative databases, the vapour pressure of test chemical was estimated to be 1.235E-19 Pa (9.26E-22 mm Hg) at 25 °C.

Water solubility:

Based on available data from authoritative databases, the water solubility of test chemical was estimated to be 1000000 mg/L at 25 °C.

Hence on the basis of estimated value the test chemical is considered to be very soluble in water.

Other supporting data from handbook and authoritative databases, also reported that the test chemical is soluble in water.

The flash point determination of test substance was performed by closed cup method using Pensky Martin’s Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test substance was determined to be 143.2°C at 967.2 hPa

Thus, according to flash point value the chemical was not classified as flammable.

Autoflammability:

Based on available data from authoritative database and secondary sources, the auto flammability or Auto-ignition of test chemical is determined to be 244°C.
