- The density of the samples is measured using the commercial balance (Mettler Toledo XS64), which functions based on the Archimedes' principle. The sample is weighed in air and in a liquid then the density is calculated by the automated software. To avoid deterioration of the samples (like chalcogenides glasses), the liquid chosen is absolute ethanol.

- The step-by-step procedure is as follows,
(i) Absoluteethanolisfilledinthecontainer.Makesurethattheleveloftheethanolimmerses the basket completely.
(ii) Note the temperature of the absolute ethanol (as shown on the thermometer attached to the device) and enter it in the balance. It is very important to periodically observe the changes in temperature and update the values in the balance. Wrong temperature value can affect the density results!
(iii) ‘Tare’ the balance.
(iv) Place the sample on the pan (in air). Wait till the value of weight is stabilized.
(v) Then, place the sample in the basket (in absolute ethanol). Wait till the value of weight is
stabilized.
(vi) Finally, the machine displays the calculated density (in g/cm3).
