Conc. based on:
test mat.
Incubation duration:
24 h
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 1.2 - <= 1.6
Details on results:
prelim estimate of solubility was 15.3g/l as total dissolved palladium, equivalent to 25.5 g/l as palladium dichloride

Sample Number Time Shaken at ˜ 30 °C(Hours) Time Equilibrated at 20°C (hours) Palladium Concentration (g/l) solution pH
1 24 24 34.2 1.6
2 48 24 33.6 1.3
3 72 24 32.2 1.2

Mean palladium concentration 33.4g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5  °C

Equivalent palladium dichloride concentration: 55.6

g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5  °C

Conclusions:
The water solubility of Palladium dichloride has been determined to be 33.4 g/l of solution at 20.0 ± 0.5  °C monitoring the palladium concentration of the sample solutions; equivalent to a palladium dichloride solubility of 55.6 g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5  °C
Executive summary:

This is a GLP compliant, guideline study which is considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.

Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Information from published review article in peer reviewed literature, minor restrictions in design and/or reporting but otherwise adequate for assessment.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
4.03 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
2.2
Remarks on result:
other: +/-0.014 g/L
Details on results:
In some cases the PGM concentrations measured by ICP-OES showed a tendency of increasing values at each equilibration time. If the last two vessels varied by less than 15%, the test was deemed satisfactory. If the last two vessels varied by more than 15% then the analysis was repeated with longer equilibration times until the criteria was met.
Conclusions:
The water solubility of palladium (II) chloride was reported as 4.03 g/L at 20°C
Executive summary:

Information from published review article in peer reviewed literature, minor restrictions in design and/or reporting but otherwise adequate for assessment. The water solubility of palladium (II) chloride was reported as 4.03 g/L at 20°C.

Description of key information

The water solubility of palladium dichloride was determined to be 4.03 g/L at room temperature.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
4.03 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Gregory (2014) is a published article in peer reviewed literature. Water solubility was determined in a non-GLP, modified guideline study, and this is considered to be suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The water solubility of palladium dichloride was reported to be 4.03 g/L at 20°C.

O’Connor and Woolley (2011) also assessed the water solubility of palladium dichloride in a GLP compliant, guideline study. The water solubility of Palladium dichloride was determined to be 33.4 g/L of solution at 20.0 ± 0.5°C monitoring the palladium concentration of the sample solutions; equivalent to a palladium dichloride solubility of 55.6 g/l at 20.0 ± 0.5°C.
