Description of key information

The influence of Cashmeran on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated after a contact time of 3 hour, in a test according to OECD guideline 209 under GLP. In a combined limit/range-finding test loading rates of 10, 100 and 1000 mg/l were tested. The combined limit/range-finding test showed -8 (= no inhibition), 19 and an average of 31% inhibition of the respiration rate at a loading rate of 10, 100 and 1000 mg/l, respectively. The inhibition observed at a loading rate of 1000 mg/l was statistically significant.
In conclusion, Cashmeran was slightly toxic to waste water (activated sludge) bacteria at a loading rate of 1000 mg/l (31% inhibition of the respiration rate). The 3h-EC50 exceeded a loading rate of 1000 mg/l.
