Description of key information

Cashmeran is not readily biodegradable. In an OECD TG 301C 0% and 1% biodegradation (based on BOD and test substance concentration respectively) was found in a 28 days.

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of Cashmeran was determined by the Japanese MITI test, equivalent to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, Method No. 301C. The concentration tested was 100 mg/l Cashmeran, with an activated sludge concentration of 30 mg/l. The parameters followed were oxygen depletion (BOD) and concentration of the test item (determined by GC). The validity criteria for the test were met.

The percentage biodegradation after 28 days was on average 0% based on BOD and 1% based on test substance concentration. It is therefore concluded that the test item was not mineralised under the conditions of this test.

Other ready biodegradability studies available at RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) indicate similar results.
