Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Photodegradation

The degradation of isobutyl acetate in air by reaction with OH-radicals was estimated with the AOP programme (v1.92; ECT, 2009). Based on a 24 -h day with an OH radical concentration of 0.5 E06 OH/cm³ the overall OH rate constant was calculated to be 4.6010 E-12 cm³/molecule*sec, leading to a half-life of approx. 3.5 days (equivalent to 83.7 h).

Hydrolysis

Isobutyl acetate will hydrolyze slowly. Using HYDROWIN (v2.00), the hydrolytic half-life was estimated to be 121 d at pH 8 and 3.3 years at pH 7 (ECT, 2009).

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable (similar to OECD 301 D: 81% in 20 d, 10-d window met; Price et al., 1974).
