In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.

From its structural formula, an alcohol containing only C, H and O, Ebanol is not expected to react significantly with Water at 20oC and will in no way emit flammable gases. This is in line with the fact that during studies such as determination of the water solubility of Ebanol (Harlan Project Number 0766/0164) no reaction of Ebanol with water was observed.
Therefore it can be concluded beyond reasonable doubt that the contact of the substance with water or damp air will not lead to the development of dangerous amounts of gas or gases which may be highly flammable.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Ebanol is not classified as flammable because an alcohol containing only C, H and O, such as Ebanol is not expected to react significantly with Water at 20oC and will no way emit flammable gases. Also in accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.
