Description of key information

In the key study in earthworms (Eisenia andrei) by Robidoux et al (1999), sublethal toxicity (growth inhibition) as well as reproduction effects can be found at the lowest tested concentration (280.0±12.3 mg/kg) of the test substance, whereas lethality was not found at concentrations up to 2502.9±230.0 mg/kg.

The test substance range-finding LC50 study by Philipps et al (1992) in Earthworms (Eisenia foetida) indicated that the test substance caused an increased weight loss at the higher concentrations (i.e, 200, 400, and 500 mg/kg soil). However the LC50 was greater than 500 mg/kg.

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for soil macroorganisms:
2 503 mg/kg soil dw
Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for soil macroorganisms:
280 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

HMX has no marked effect on the survival of earthworms with LC50 of 2500 and >500 mg/kg dry soil. However it seems to have an effects on the reproduction of Eisenia andrei (NOEC< 280.0±12.3 mg/kg).
