Description of key information

In the same study, survival and growth of Chironomus tentans and Hyalella azteca were assessed when exposed to HMX. Survival of the Chironomus tentans was unaffected after exposure to the test substance at the highest concentration of 400 mg/kg. Significantly increased growth was observed after exposure to sublethal concentrations of the test substance. The 10d NOEC of the test substance is > 145.8 mg/kg sediment dw. Survival of the Hyalella azteca was unaffected after exposure to the test substance at the highest concentration of 400 mg/kg. Significantly increased growth was observed after exposure to sublethal concentrations of the test substance. The 10d NOEC of the test substance is > 126 mg/kg sediment dw

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater sediment:
145.8 mg/kg sediment dw
