Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to
Guideline:
other: UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Part I, Test 1(c) (i) "Time/pressure test"
Version / remarks:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Part I: Classification procedures, test methods and criteria relating to explosives of Class 1
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The size of the used vessel is slightly fifferent from that proposed in Test 1(c)(i) . This is not considered to affect the result and conclusion.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The thermal stability of the substance was tested in a stailess steel pressure vessel, volume 100 cc. The vessel had as integral parts, a thermocouple and a pressure transducer.
GLP compliance:
no

Results and discussion

Results of test series for explosives
Key result
Test series:
other: Thermal stability in a closed vessel
Method:
UN Test 1 (c) (i): Time/pressure test
Parameter:
other: Pressure [kPa]
Value:
2 413
Result:
result is considered "+" (positive)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
study cannot be used for classification
Conclusions:
According to the test criteria and and method of assessing results "the substance shows the ability to deflagrate". So at least one "+" is obtained in the three types of test to assess possible explosive effects. The question in box 4 of the procedure for classifying a substance or article in class 1 "Is it an explosive substance" has to be answered with "yes"
