Description of key information

At a concentration of 0.1% cinchonine inhibits plant growth, while at a concentration of 0.01% no effects were observed. Thus, cinchonine has phytotoxic effects.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the publication of Wink, 1995 the inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and radicle growth of Lepidium sativum were determined. At a concentration of 0.1 % cinchonine inhibits 84% hypocotyl elongation and 94% radicle growth. At a concentration of 0.01 % no inhibition was detected. In conclusion, cinchonine has phytotoxic effects at concentrations > 0.01 %.
