Description of key information

For the photochemical oxidative degradation of 4-chlorobenzonitrile an atmospheric half-life of 66 days can be calculated (AOP v1.91).

4-chlorobenzonitrile hydrolyzes in neutral anaerobic sediments with a half-life of approximately 18 days. However, biological degradation processes could not totally be excluded during the experiment.

The hydrolysis half-life in water at 85 °C and 37 °C were determined to be 5.5 days and 170 days, respectively.

The quantum yield of photolysis in water was determined to be 0.017.
