Additional information

In response to an ECHA compliance check, the registrant sponsored terrestrial toxicity studies of the registered substance including the following:

- Earthworm reproduction test (OECD 222) to address long-term toxicity on terrestrial invertebrates;

- Seedling emergence and seedling growth (OECD 208) to address long-term toxicity to plants;

- Soil microorganisms: nitrogen transformation test (OECD 216); and

- Soil microorganisms: carbon transformation test (OECD 217)

Earthworm reproduction:

There was no treatment-related mortality of adult earthworms exposed to Alkenes, C11-12, hydroformylation products, distn. residues at 62.5, 125, 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg dry soil for 28 days. Based on body weight and survival data of adult earthworms, the no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was determined to be 1000 mg/kg dry soil, the highest concentration tested. There were no reductions of 50% or greater for the numbers of juveniles produced in the treatment groups in comparison to the negative control group, therefore the EC50 for reproduction was greater than 1000 mg/kg dry soil, the highest concentration tested. The NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg/kg dry soil, based on the numbers of juveniles produced.

Seedling emergence:

Planting of seeds into soils with nominal test substance concentrations of up to 1000 mg/kg dry soil resulted in little or no adverse effects on the seedling emergence and early growth of all six species tested. All EC20 estimates were higher than the highest soil concentration tested.

Soil microorganisms: nitrogen and carbon transformation:

Regarding the carbon transformation study, after 28 days, an inhibitory dose response effect was not observed for the treatment groups when compared to the untreated control group. The EC50 value for inhibition of soil respiration after 28 days was greater than 810 mg Alkenes, C11-12, hydroformylation products, distn. residues/kg dry soil (the highest concentration tested). The EC25 value for inhibition of soil respiration after 28 days was greater than 810 mg Alkenes, C11-12, hydroformylation products, distn. residues/kg dry soil (the highest concentration tested). The EC10 value for inhibition of soil respiration after 28 days was greater than 810 mg Alkenes, C11-12, hydroformylation products, distn. residues/kg dry soil (the highest concentration tested).

Regarding the nitrogen transformation study, the calculated EC50 value for inhibition of nitrate formation after 28 days was greater than 810 mg Alkenes, C11-12, hydroformylation products, distn. residues /kg dry soil (the highest concentration tested). The EC25 value for inhibition of nitrate formation after 28 days was 772.86 mg/kg with 95% confidence limits of 699.68 mg/kg and 853.69 mg/kg. The EC10 value for inhibition of nitrate formation after 28 days was 466.87 mg/kg with 95% confidence limits of 338.06 mg/kg and 644.91 mg/kg.
