Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Neononanoic acid when evaluated in an O.E.C.D. 301 B Modified Sturm Test demonstrated no degradation and

therefore is not readily biodegradable. Neononanoic acid would be assessed as P or vP.

A Log Pow value of 3.13, <4.5 for B, was determined by an EU MethodGuideline A.8 "Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water), HPLC Method" study conducted according to the GLPs in 1992. Neononanoic acid would be assessed as B.

Based on the derived PNECs for the three tropic levels, the PNEC of 100 ug/l is believed to be protective of fresh water organisms and the PNEC of 10 ug/L is considerd to be protective of marine organisms. Neononanoic acid would be assessed as not T.

Likely routes of exposure:

In this case an emission and risk characterisation in accordance with the stipulations of Annex I (4.2 & 6.5) is not required as neononanoic acid is not considered a PBT/vPvB.
