Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is readily biodegradable at a test concentration of 2.7 mg/L, which is a concentration reasonably to be expected at the influent of wastewater treatment plants. Further evidence is provided by the results of a modified MITI ready biodegradability study conducted at 100 mg/L test item concentration.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The substance was readily biodegradable and not inhibitory to microbial activity at concentrations that can be expected in the influent of sewage treatment plants. This was demonstrated in the key study on ready biodegradability at test concentrations of 2.7 mg/L. Ready biodegradability was also found in the supporting study applying significantly higher test concentrations of 100 mg/L. The finding of non-inhibitory effects on microbial activity is supported by available studies on microbial inhibition test Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and other bacterial strains (Morris et al. 1979, Rajabi et al. 2005). In conclusion, a NOEC for inhibitory effects on micro-organisms of 100 mg/L was used further in the hazard assessment and the PNEC STP was derived from this NOEC.
