Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Experimental dates: 12 February 2021 to 09 April 2021
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The pile melted but failed to ignite during the 2 minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied.

The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
GHS and EU-CLP criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

The determination was carried out by measuring the burning rate of test item prepared as a pile of set dimensions, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A.10 Flammability (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, and under GLP.

The main test was not conducted, as the test item failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Description of key information

Flammability of solids: no ignition; Tremain, S.P. (2021)

Flammability in contact with air, water or self-heating waived.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test, according to EU A10 method, which is equivalent to UN N1 method. Therefore the result is relevant with regard to GHS and EU-CLP criteria, and the substance has been determined to be Not highly flammable.

Pyrophoric properties, self-heating or release of flammable gas if contact with water were deemed unnecessary, based on experience in handling, testing and ouse, or chemical structure, or physico-chemical properties, fulfilling exemption criteria. No classification is anticipated for these hazards.
