Description of key information

Two studies conduced according to OECD 301 B and 301  D and both quoted Klimisch 2, concluded that the substance is readily biodegradable.

Additional information

Concerning the key study realised accoding to the OECD 301 B, the percentage of CO2 released at 20 days of incubation was 100% of expected total carbon from the test substance. The control sodium benzoate released 78.5% and 44.4% inhibition test. The results showed that the substance is readily biodegradable.

Concerning the supporting study realised according to OECD 301 D, at the end of the 28 days of incubation, the oxygen consumption in the product solution was higher than that of the blank control, indicating that the product suffered microbial degradation. The ready biodegradability of the product was estimated in 100%, a result higher than the limit of 60% established for the OECD Guideline 301 D (1992). Considering the obtained results, the subatnce was considered biodegradable after 28 days, as described by the OECD Guideline 301 D (1992).
