Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data are available for the toxicity of diethyl sulphide to aquatic invertebrates and algae. The toxicity to fish and micro-organisms has been read across from methyl ethyl sulphide. Both of these substances are sulphides characterised by a sulphur atom in a carbon chain with the same structure over very similar carbon chain lengths (diethyl sulphide: C4H10S and methyl ethyl sulphide: C3H8S). Similarities between the physico-chemical and environmental fate properties are apparent and the available data for acute toxicity to Daphnia and algae show the similarity of the ecotoxicological properties of the two substances. The results for the aquatic species indicate that invertebrates are expected to be the most sensitive species and therefore the read across from methyl ethyl sulphide to diethyl sulphide for fish and micro-organisms is not expected to impact the classification or hazardous properties of the substance and therefore the read across is considered to be justified.
