Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Reliable short-term toxicity test results are available for freshwater fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) for the registration substance, 3-(trimethoxsilyl)propyl acrylate (CAS 4369-14-6, EC 419-560-6).

The relevant short-term values are:

Fish: Oncorhynchus mykiss: 96-h LC50: 24 mg/l (nominal) (equivalent to 19.7 mg/l in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-acryloxypropylsilanetriol);

Invertebrates: Daphnia magna: 48-h EC50: >100 mg/l, (nominal, highest concentration tested), (equivalent to >82 mg/l in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-acryloxypropylsilanetriol);

Algae: Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata: 24-h ErC50: 107 mg/l (nominal); 72-h ErC50 and ErC10: >125 mg/l and >31.25 mg/l respectively (nominal, calculated by study reviewer) (equivalent to 86 mg/l, >103 mg/l and >26 mg/l in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-acryloxypropylsilanetriol).

In line with ECHA communication number INQ-C-2114566545-40-01/F, there is an ongoing toxicity to microorganisms study conducted with the registration substance, in accordance with an appropriate test guideline (OECD 209) and GLP.

3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl acrylate (CAS 4369-14-6) will hydrolyse rapidly (half-life 2.9 hours at pH 7 and 20-25°C) in contact with water and atmospheric moisture to form 3-acryloxypropylsilanetriol and methanol. The properties of methanol have been discussed extensively in the public literature and it is not hazardous at the concentrations at which it would have been present in the toxicity tests reviewed in this assessment. The short-term EC50 and LC50 values for this substance are in excess of 1000 mg/l (OECD 2004a - SIDS for methanol).
