Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of annex XI, no test of flammability is required: TBHP, a liquid at room temperature, is stable in water (commercial supply = ca 70wt% solution in which water acts a stabiliser) and is not available in "dry" form. EU tests A.12 and A.13 are therefore not applicable. Flash point data are supplied in section 4.11

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

Flashpoint of TBHP (aqueous 70% solution in water, as manufactured) is 300K. The substance is therefore considered flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the flash point of 27 C and a boiling point of 35 C for TBHP, the classification of TBHP is concluded to be:

- under Directive 67/548/EEC criteria, R10

- under Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP GHS) criteria, flammable liquid category 3.

- under UN GHS criteria, flammable liquid category 3.
