Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 405 (Acute Eye Irritation / Corrosion)
Version / remarks:
screening test
Deviations:
yes
Principles of method if other than guideline:
A 0.1 ml aliquot of the supplied test item was introduced into the right eye of a single animal by gently pulling away the lower lid from the eyeball to form a cup into which the test item was placed. The lids were then held shut for a few seconds to prevent loss of the test item. The left eye remained untreated. Approximately 1, 24, 48 and 72 hours and 7 days after dosing the treated eye was examined for damage or irritation to the cornea, iris and conjunctivae using the untresated eye as a comparator control. The observed irritation was allocated a numerical value based on the Draize-scale.
GLP compliance:
no
