Thermal stress

Exposing the test material for 300 seconds to thermal stress did not result in an explosion.

Mechanical stress by shock

Exposing the test material to mechanical stress by shock did not lead to a change in the test material consistency.

Mechanical stress by friction

Exposing the test material to mechanical stress by friction resulted in the decomposition of the test material. The test material decomposed into a black residue probably caused by the released heat coming from the friction between the two porcelain surfaces. In all tests, sparks were observed but were not considered to be a positive effect. No fire, smoke or crepitation was observed. It was concluded that the test material does react under mechanical stress by friction but is not considered to be explosive.

The key study (Krips, 1995a) was performed in line with GLP and a standardised guideline with a sufficient level of detail to assess the quality of the study. The study was performed to a good standard and was assigned a reliability score of 1 using the principle for assessing data quality as set out in Klimisch (1997).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance is considered to be unclassified for explosivity.
