Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The substance 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline is not imported or used as such in the European Union. It is contained as an unintended residual monomer in the polyimide resins imported into the EU in form of powder, pellets or compounds, which are used in the manufacture by heat moulding of articles for industrial use such as in the automotive industry. However, the concentration of 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline in the resins is negligible (< 0.1 ppm). A release of substance from the resins is highly unlikely because of the low vapour pressure, low water solubility and moderate octanol-water partition coefficient of 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline. During the heat moulding process, any residual 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline will decompose thermally. Therefore, no human exposure to 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline is expected for the identified use of the substance in the EU. No exposure and risk assessments are performed because of the negligible human exposure, and DNELs are not derived.

Exposure of the general public to 3,3'-[biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(oxy)]dianiline from its use in the European Union is highly unlikely and considered as negligible. Thus, no DNELs for the general public have been derived.
