Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as neodecanoic acid, zirconium salts are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Dissociation of dissolved neodecanoic acid, zirconium salts (at least to some extent) resulting in zirconium ions and neodecanoate ions may be assumed under environmental conditions.

Abiotic degradation is not relevant for inorganic elements such as zirconium. Zirconium cations and neodecanoate are not subject to hydrolysation as both ions lack hydrolysable groups. Neodecanoate anions have potential for an indirect photochemical degradation but this process appears to be negligible. Furthermore, a direct photochemical degradation is unlikely since neodecanoic acid does not absorb light within a range of 290 to 750 nm. Therefore, abiotic degradation is not considered to significantly affect the fate of neodecanoic acid, zirconium salts in the environment.
