Description of key information
Conisdered readily biodegradable on the basis of assessment of sodium benzoate and benzoic acid
Benzoates are used as positive control in OECD ready biodegradation testing.
Additional information
A good level of biodegradation is noted with both benzoic acid and the sodium salt. The absence of significant inhibition of microbial activity by lithium ions suggests that the lithium will not prevent biodegradation of benzoate and no further biodegradation testing is considered to be necessary.
