The multiconstituent substance is a reaction mass of inorganic and organic acids. The substance itself constains considerable amounts of water (46.2%) that cannot be removed without changing the identity of the substance itself. The constituent sulfuric acid has a strong affinity to water. Therefore it is very difficult to concentrate sulfuric acid. The system water/sulfuric acid is an azeotrope. If heating of the substance is enhanced to remove more water, it is to be expected that H2SO4 will be lost from the substance. Therefore it is not possible to reduce the water content to 20% without changing the composition. Furthermore we cannot exclude any decomposition reactions of the benzene sulfonic acids by high heat.

 

Therefore the physicochemical properties of the substance were determined with the substance Reaction mass of 1,3-benzene disulfonic acid and sulfuric acid with a water content that is not removable unless the stability of the substance would be affected.

 

The substance is a slightly yellow liquid with a characteristic odor.The melting point of the substance is < - 80°C (< 193.15 K) and the boiling point is 146.4 ± 1.1 °C (419.6 ± 1.1 K) at 101888Pa. The substance is a liquid at 20 °C. Therefore determination of the particle size distribution is technically not feasible. The relative density of the liquid is 1.5025 ± 0.0006 g/cm3 at 20.0°C. The vapour pressure of the substance is 357 Pa at 20°C and 508 Pa at 25°C. The log Kow-values of the constituents of the multiconstituent substance are below 1.52 at 20°C. The substance is miscible with water in all proportions and the surface tension of an aqueous solution of 1g/L of of the substance is 72.33 ± 0.16 mN/m at 19.9 °C. Thus the substance is not surface active. Due to corrosion attack of the testing equipment, determination of the flash point is technically not feasible. No auto ignition temperature could be detected up to 650 °C. Therefore the substance is a non flammable liquid. The substance is not explosive. At > 50°C the substance is corrosive against stainless steel and brass.
