Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Considered as a Flammable Liquid cat.2 (as solution in heptane, extrapolated from solvent).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

As the substance is a liquid, the relevant test for flammable properties is the flash point measurement (in accordance with section 2 of REACh Annex XI, flammability studies relevant for classification criteria do not apply to liquids. Please refer to flash point under 4.11. As presented under point 4.11, the solvent in the substance as manufactured is expected to drive the Flash Point, and therefore, it is considered sufficient for purpose of classification.

In accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, studies for flammability if contact with water, and for pyrophoric properties, are deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structures of the components that do not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance, and based on the experience in handling and use of the substance (as manufactured).

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008 (CLP), the solvent heptane has a harmonised classification as Flammable Liquid cat.2, so it is considered justified to classify the technical dtBHP (as manufactured) in the same category.
