Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the bioaccumulation study in fish does not need to be conducted as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption (log Kow < 3).

Additional information

Bioaccumulation of dichloromethane in aquatic species is unlikely in view of its physical and chemical properties (logKow = 1.25).

The theoretical BCF of dichloromethane ranges between 0.91 and 7.9 L/kg (Veith et al., 1980; Lyman et al., 1982; Veith and Kosian, 1983; Bayard et al., 1985). BCF values from a study with carp (CITI, 1986) ranged from < 6.4 - 40 for low and 2.0 - 5.4 for higher exposure concentrations (25 or 250 ug/L).
