Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
July 9, 2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: The ammonium salts of C16-18 (even numbered) fatty acids are produced in an aqueous dispersion with approx. 29% of ammonium salts. It is technically not feasible to isolate the substance due to the possible decomposition of component(s) during the warming process to remove the water. Moreover, still additives of preparation would be present at the dry sample. Therefore, the water solubility of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) ammonium salts was measured as the solubility of the substance in water dispersion. Due to the fact that the product is a dispersion of solid particles of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts, with an average particle size of 10 microns, the solubility was estimated measuring the turbidity.
GLP compliance:

Details on results:
The water solubility of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts, was determined to be lower than 0.05 mg/l.

Conclusions:
The water solubility of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts, was determined to be lower than 0.05 mg/l at 23 ºC.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) ammonium salts was measured as the solubility of the substance in water dispersion. Due to the fact that the product is a dispersion of solid particles of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salt, with an average particle size of 10 microns, the solubility was estimated measuring the turbidity (HACH spectrophotometer, DR 2000 model, measuring the absorbance at 450 nm). The water solubility of Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered), ammonium salts, was determined to be lower than 0.05 mg/l at 23 ºC.
