Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic algae and cyanobacteria are not the most sensitive species of the 3 trophic levels, therefore this trophic level is not used for the derivation ofthe aquatic PNEC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
11 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.3 mg/L

Additional information

A full discussion on the justification on read-across of data for the 4,4´-isomer of MDA for oligomeric MDA in the scope of REACH is presented in section 7.6 of this CSR.

The Bayer AG study was given a reliability of 2 because of compliance with GLP although analytical monitoring was not performed. Results of the study include a selection of EC50 and NOEC values based both on "growth rate" and "area under the growth curve". However it should be noted that results elsewhere confirm that for 4,4'-MDA algae are not the most sensitive species of the three trophic levels of the base-set (fish, daphnia and algae).
