Description of key information

The 72h-EC50 and the 72h-NOEC for freshwater aquatic algae were determined to 2.1 mg/L and 0.62 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.62 mg/L

Additional information

Two studies are available for the toxicity to aquatic algae of CHIMEXANE NV. Both studies were performed on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata under static conditions. Both biomass and growth rate were determined; growth rate is the preferred endpoint as it is not dependent on study design. L'Haridon (2003) reported a 72h-ErC50 of 1.11 mg/L and a 72h-NOEC of 0.500 mg/L. Peither (2004) reported a 72h-ErC50 of 2.1 mg/L and a 72h-NOEC of 0.62 mg/L. The study of Peither (2004) was determined as key study since this study was compliant with test guideline and GLP requirements. The study of L’Haridon (2003) exhibits deviations for maintenance of exposure concentrations during the experiment. Thus, the study of Peither (2004) is selected as key study and the study of L’Haridon (2003) as supporting study.
