Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Half life of hydrolysis of the substance THPS (read across): 131 d (pH 5) / 72 d (pH 7) / 7 d (pH 9)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
72 d
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The read across approach for THPC with THPS is considered applicable, as the organic phosphonium cation is the same for both salts. The different anions (chlorid and sulfat) have no great influence on the solubility (both very high), the vapour pressure (both extrem low), and the log Kow (both extrem low and negativ).

Furthermore, the oxidative degradation of THPS and THPC results in the same main metabolite THPO, which is far less toxic than THPS or THPC. Therefore the hydrolysis of the cationic part of the THPx salts is assumed to be independent of the anion in the test item.
