Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

C4 sulfonamido alcohol did not inhibit activated sludge respiration at the highest concentration tested (EC50 > 1000 mg/L, OECD 209).
The 3-hr EC50 (respiration rate) for C4 glycine acid (a degradation product of C4 sulfonamido alcohol) was also >1000 mg/L (OECD 209).

Additional information

C4 sulfonamido alcohol did not inhibit activated sludge respiration in a test conducted according to OECD 209. The study was a non-GLP rangefinding test. However, the results for the reference substance (3,5-dichlorophenol) were within the normal range and the result for C4 sulfonamido alcohol was clearly negative. Therefore, this study is considered reliable with restrictions. C4 glycine acid is a stable biodegradation product of C4 sulfonamido alcohol, and its toxicity to microorganisms was also assessed in a limit test as per OECD 209. This test was not GLP-compliant. However, the results for the reference substance (3,5-dichlorophenol) were within the normal range and the respiration rate and variability for blank controls were within the validity range for the method. Therefore, this study is also considered reliable with restrictions. Neither C4 sulfonamido alcohol nor a stable degradation product thereof are toxic to activated sludge.
