Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Hess. Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz, Wiesbaden, Germany
Type of method:
OECD harmonised ring method
Key result
Surface tension:
67.9 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
194 mg/L
Remarks on result:
other: mean value of measured surface tension from two solutions with concentrations 190.6 mg/L and 197.4 mg/L (determined by HPLC)

Individual results of the measurement of the surface tension:

The surface tension values of the two diluted aqueous solutions of the test item were determined.

The measurement was carried out at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C.

A correction factor (Harkins & Jordan) is included.

The age of the test solutions at the beginning of the measurement was 51 hours for the first test solution and 51.5 hours for the second test solution. The age of the test solution is defined as the period of time from the preparation of the solution to the recording of the surface tension value.

 Mean σM [mN/m]

 66.57

 67.66

Mean (experiments 1 to 2): σmean = 67.12 mN/m

Standard deviation: 0.8 mN/m

Relative standard deviation: 1.1 %

The mean value, multiplied by the calibration factor (F= 1.0111) results in:

σ =  σmeanx F = 67.9 mN/m

Description of key information

67.9 mN/m at 20 °C for a concentration of 194.0 mg/L (OECD Guideline 115, OECD harmonised ring method)

Two saturated solutions were prepared and then diluted to 90 % of the saturation concentration (190.6 mg/L and 197.4 mg/L determined by HPLC).

The mean value of the measured surface tension at 20 °C is given.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
67.9
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
