Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusions:
Based on read across studies for Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates on chemically similar substances the EC50(daphnia, 48h/24h) for the target substance Fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd., ammonium salts is estimated to be >=4.2 mg/l (to <= 40 mg/l).

Description of key information

Based on read across studies for short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates on chemically similar substances, for the target substance Fatty acids, C14-18 and C16-18-unsatd., ammonium salts the EC50(daphnia, 48h/24h) is estimated to be >=4.2 mg/l  (to <= 40 mg/l).

Additional information

Several publications are available in which the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the analogue substances (Sodium oleate, Sodium myristate, Sodium stearate, Sodium palm kernel soap, Sodium tallow soap) were determined. The test took 24 hours respectively 48 hours. As results, following (lowest) EC50 values were determined: 4.2 mg/L for Sodium oleate, >20 mg/L for Sodium myristate, 19 mg/L for Sodium stearate, 25 mg/L for Sodium palm kernel soap and 40 mg/L for Sodium tallow soap.

Based on the structural similarity of the target substance to the analogue substances the results of the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the source substances can be assigned to the target substance.

The supporting information of the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the analogue substances sodium laurate (EC50(daphnia, 24h): 48 mg/l) is given but is less appropriated for the read-across projection to short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of the target substance (because laurate is an impurity).
