Key result
Remarks on result:
no self-ignition observed up to the melting point

A negative result was obtained. No spontaneous ignition occurred and no significant exothermic effect of the test item was observed. It demonstrated that the test item is “not a self-heating substance”. According to the UN guideline, no further testing is required.

After the experiment, the test item had turned into a brown residue and was collected in a container that was placed below the cube. It indicated that the test item had been molten, decomposed and/or reacted during the experiment.

Conclusions:
Based on the results of the EC A.16 test performed, the test item is considered not a self-heating substance.

Principles of method if other than guideline:
Modifications to the EU A.16 Method: A heating rate of 1.0-1.2 deg C/min or 0.6 deg C/min is used instead of 0.5 deg C/min due to an alternative Swiss Chemical Industry method and technical restriction of the apparatus used. Cylindric wire baskets with 0.2 mm openings are used.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

-heating rate: 1.2 deg C/min

-the sample is heated from room temperature (about 20 deg C) to +/-160 deg C (nearby the melting point)

-the sample shows no self-heating to 400 deg C in the test run

Conclusions:
In conclusion, the tested substance T002078 is not auto-flammable up to the temperature applied in the test run. The substance has no relative self-ignition temperature.

Description of key information

The auto-flammability potential of T002078 was determined in a K1 GLP study (Brekelmans, 2017) carried out according to EC A.16. In the EC A.16 test no self-heating was observed up to the melting point of the test item. No relative self-ignition temperature could be determined.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are two supporting studies available, for which the reliability was not assignable (K4) performed by the Process Safety Center of Janssen Pharmaceutica:

In a study using a BAM oven, the Minimum Ignition Temperature for the test item was determined to be 450°C. Furthermore, the tested substance T002078 showed no relative self-ignition using a Grewer oven.
