RESULTS:

- Self-heating:

A positive result is obtained if spontaneous ignition occurs or if the temperature of the sample exceeds the oven temperature by 60 °C. This was not detected for the substance.

- Self-reactive:

At a heating rate of 3 K/min, an exothermic reaction started at 126 °C with a total heat release of about 36 kJ/kg, which was interfered by an endothermic effect. At a heating rate of 3 K/min, no exothermic reaction could be measured under argon-atmosphere. The first exothermic reaction was an oxidizing reaction with the residual oxygen in the glass container. It disappears under argon. Based on this thermal behavior it is expected that SADT is > 75 °C.

Conclusions:
17 alpha-Cyanomethyl-17 beta-hydroxy-5(10)-estren-3-one is classified as a not self-heating substance when tested according to UN-MTC Procedure N.4 and in the sense of CLP Annex I, 2.11. Also it can be concluded by expert judgement that the substance is not self-reactive in the sense of CLP 2.8.
Executive summary:

The test were performed as stipulated in UN-MTC test procedure (Part III, sub-section 33.2.1.4.1, Test N.4 `Test method for self-heating substances) and according to UN-MTC Procedure H.4 (SADT). The sample in its delivered state was filled in a sample container. The container was housed in the cover and hung at the centre of the oven. The oven temperature was raised to the starting temperature and kept there for at least 24 hours. The temperature of the sample and of the oven was recorded continuously. 17 alpha-Cyanomethyl-17 beta-hydroxy-5(10)-estren-3-one is classified as a not self-heating substance when tested according to UN-MTC Procedure N.4 and in the sense of CLP Annex I, 2.11. Also it can be concluded by expert judgement that 17 alpha-Cyanomethyl-17 beta-hydroxy-5(10)-estren-3-one is not self-reactive in the sense of CLP 2.8. The determination according to UN-MTC Procedure H.4 (SADT) is not necessary.

Description of key information

The substance is stable since it shows no self-reactive or self-heating properties, there are no exothermic reactions up to 140 °C and since the test substance is a solid, the criteria of metal corrosion does not apply (Keldenich, 2015 (BTS Report 2015/01164)).
